Identity Fraud: What the bank does
The banks do the following to combat identity fraud:
- Customers opening an account are asked to show a valid ID which is checked to see whether it has been reported stolen or missing.
- Security devices and codes such as cards, PIN codes and passwords are sent separately or must be collected in person.
- Confirmation of transactions and changes in personal details is sent to the customer so that he or she can check that they are correct.
- Banks try to inform you as well as possible about identity fraud and warn you against attacks that are taking place via the website.
