Creditcard: What the bank does

To make credit cards safer to use, these are now provided with a chip. In the coming years this chip will increasingly replace the magnetic stripe on the back of the credit card. Once this replacement process is completed, you will no longer pay by placing a signature but by keying in your PIN.

Many stores already ask you to pay with the chip. In almost all these cases, you must also use the PIN. We advise you to read the tips for safe PIN usage.

If you use your credit card for online payments, you will now also be asked to enter online banking log-in codes or a special password. For more information, go to your bank’s website. A list of bank websites can be found under FAQ.
